Sympatheia Counseling

We can do this together.

ABOUT ME

Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional - II
My name is Victor Campos. I am a bilingual (English and Spanish) licensed mental health counselor (LMHC). I graduated with my Master's in Mental Health Counseling in 2018. Since then I have worked with youth, adolescents, young adults, and their families.
I am passionate about working with individuals from ethnic minorities, as well as those with marginalized identities, and seeing their lives improve. As a culturally responsive therapist, I use evidence-based and culturally sensitive interventions to provide the best service to each individual with whom I work. My approach is always developed in collaboration with my clients, as they are the experts on their own lived experiences.
I have clinical experience treating depression, anxiety, trauma, and other stress-related disorders.
Although we all experience stressors and mood shifts in our everyday lives, our normal coping skills might not always be enough to help us move through the various difficulties we will inevitably encounter as humans. This is where therapy becomes beneficial, providing us with the opportunity to create a more richly developed system of supports. I am always thankful for the chance to travel alongside my clients as they move through their journey of discovering who they are and what they need. Therapy allows them to find the confidence to move toward a life where they thrive.

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.

WHAT IS SYMPATHEIA?
Sympatheia (from the Greek συμπάθεια pronounced ˈsim-pə-the-ya')
Sympatheia is the Stoic philosophical idea that “all things are interwoven with each other and therefore have an affinity for each other” (Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 6.38). In Stoic philosophy, it is believed that we are all part of something bigger than ourselves, breathe the same air, and want the same thing, no matter where we come from in this world.
Although Stoicism originated centuries ago, many of its core principles have influenced modern psychotherapy. Stoic philosophers emphasized the importance of how our thoughts and interpretations shape our emotional experiences. As the philosopher Epictetus taught, it is often not the events themselves that distress us, but the meaning we assign to them. He said, “what really frightens and dismays us is not external events themselves, but the way in which we think about them. It is not things that disturb us, but our interpretation of their significance.”
These ideas later inspired the development of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in the 1960s by psychiatrist Aaron Beck. CBT focuses on identifying and reframing unhelpful thought patterns in order to improve emotional well-being and create healthier ways of coping. Today, CBT is one of the most widely used and effective approaches for treating anxiety, depression, stress, and other mental health concerns, helping individuals build resilience, self-awareness, and lasting emotional growth.

MY PHILOSOPHY
As your therapist, I believe that therapy is a journey that we travel together. I will never claim to be an expert on you, and so it is up to you to decide the path you want us to take. I am here to support you and provide a space for you to explore your reasons for seeking help, as well as space to move through the goals you would like to set. I believe that in order to do this, we must first build a collaborative relationship where you can feel empowered to make the changes you wish to create in your life.
We will identify strengths, talents, and abilities which you already have and capitalize on how they can be used to meet your goals. We will also work on identifying challenges and factors that might be preventing you from making the progress you are hoping to see. My ultimate desire in working with you is to help you arrive to that destination, empowered with tools and skills to achieve a fulfilling life -- whatever you decide that means and looks like for you.
My approach is eclectic, as I draw on different theoretical approaches, such as CBT, DBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Family Systems, to provide the best treatment possible for each individual client.
